Guilds

In other games these communities have been called, Guilds or Clans or Alliances... in Visions we will call them Communities.

Guilds

Post by mastertj99999 » Sat Aug 13, 2011 1:15 am

I know we will be having classes such as jew and roman will we be able to form guilds of sorts, I think this would be a great idea considering even back then they had their "guilds" the different churches the church of ephesus for example.

Jew and Roman aren't really classes. They are "Cultural Heritage", sort of like if you are born in America, you are an American. That doesn't dictate your faith or your skin color, but it does kind of set you up for a certain reactionary responses from people of other nations who make assumptions about "Americans". It is a faction modifier in the game. But has nothing to do with what skills you can learn, everyone can learn any skill. There aren't "classes" like in fantasy MMO's where you have the druid and the cleric and the warrior and the mage. But there are professions. Everyone can learn the basic skills, but as you progress there will come a time when you have to choose your Mastery. That's when you will identify with a particular profession. This is the closest thing we will come to "classes" as they are known in other games.

Guilds will be Communities. A person will join a Community, which allows them to cooperate within their Community group. Historically a Guild was related to a profession, but I know from games that Guilds like to include players from many professions, so the term doesn't really fit Visions very well. Community works better.

Visions isn't really like another game. If it was like another game we wouldn't really need to have spent so long working on it, we would just play that game. :) But that does make it kind of hard to describe what it's like using comparisons.

I created a forum branch specifically for discussion of guilds and game communities. I have moved this topic to that branch accordingly. Carry on as you were. :)
