Hello everyone! I just recently found 'Visions', and I am very excited about it! I was just wondering, though, about what role the churches will play.
I know that in this time period there were no churches in the modern sense (A big, fancy building), but rather that the believers met in homes, in the public squares, and some of the jewish believers worshiped in the synagogues. They were much closer than we are in churches today, and their relationships were like real families.
So my question is this; Will players have church families made up of other players in their areas? Will they meet together at regular times? If so, what will they do?
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this!
Churches
Re: Churches
Players will be able to choose the profession of a Disciple, which will give them special bonuses for prayer and for preaching the Word. It is anticipated that players may want to organize their own in-game services, and the game world is certainly large enough that they can choose a location of their choice to do so without interfering with the gameplay of other players. However we are not planning to have any game-specific services like modern churches have. It is not the purpose of Visions to create a Visions game "denomination" but instead to create a safe environment for friends to play together. There is a lot of encouragement for player-driven content, so it's possible for players to organize their own virtual church meetings, but they won't be designed into the game as a required activity. Hope that helps?

Great! That answers my questions!
Re: Churches
For the record, the Visions Alpha is playable enough to the point that you could organize your own in-game Bible Studies or in-game church services with your friends from around the world. There are 6 playable zones (some more developed than others) and some beautiful scenery, some public locations like Amphitheaters, as well as remote locations, like the distant island off the coast of Kition. Choose a place that you like, organize a meeting time with your friends, designate a person to lead the Bible study, and meet together in game for a private gathering of Believers.
For a period of about 6 months or so I tried to host weekly GM events and weekly Bible studies, but did not get any player involvement so I discontinued the events. I would be willing to start them again if we had player commitment for participation. But I just am not able to commit the time if there are not going to be any players attending. Please speak up o a day and time that would work for you if this is something you and your friends are interested in having a GM moderator lead.
