Cultural Heritage

It is likely a fair statement to say that players like variety. They like individuality. They like to choose attributes for their play character that set them apart from the other characters represented in the game world. And we want players to be able to choose the skin pigment and physical features for their play character with a wide array of possibilities. However, in a game of this type with an historical setting, we can’t very well introduce trolls, elves, dwarves, orcs and other races to the character selection screen. The only race to choose from is Human. While the historical climate of the region very likely did segregate people by “race” according to their country of birth or skin color, we must recognize that we live in the 21st century and face modern politics as well as the challenge of adjusting game mechanics. So in order to avoid the possibility of establishing a climate that would facilitate racism in the foundation of the game mechanics, we are going to use “Culture” (not race) as a defining characteristic of playable avatars.
